Josh was founder (while still in his 20s) of the Threshold Foundation, an organization composed of individuals with inherited wealth who had an interest in using that wealth as a positive force for advancing a more just and sustainable world. Threshold is now an international network of donor activists. Josh also founded the Social Venture Network, the first of what has become a group of business organizations, including the Investors Circle, Business for Social Responsibility and Net Impact. All of these groups focus on the role of business as a vehicle for positive social change. He is a founding board member of Witness, the Fund for Global Human Rights, the Environmental Defenders Law Center, Afropop WorldWide, and one of two male donors to the Women Moving Millions campaign on behalf of those who hold up Half the Sky. Josh has been an active private early investor for many socially driven ventures and companies including Seventh Generation, Stoneyfield Farms, Grameen Phone, Stirling Energy Systems, Napo Pharmaceutical and Indigenous Design.
