Betsy founded Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd., after nearly 20 years working within the philanthropic and non-profit communities. Her work with a Chicago family was the impetus for starting Strategic Philanthropy. The family wanted to make a difference in the world but lacked the formal knowledge and professional resources to strategically invest their philanthropic dollars. Betsy helped the family start and manage Girl’s Best Friend Foundation. A decade later, Strategic Philanthropy gives that opportunity to a wide spectrum of donors around the world.

Betsy is an internationally recognized expert in philanthropy and a prolific writer and speaker. She is a regular contributor to Forbes.com and has authored pieces for the Journal of Practical Estate Planning, Alliance Magazine, STEP Journal (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), and the Environmental Grantmakers Association Journal, among others. She is regularly quoted in the Chicago Tribune, New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. The many venues where Betsy has been the featured speaker include: The Chicago Estate Planning Council, Association of Small Foundations, William Blair & Company - 2010 Family Wealth Conference, Grantmakers Without Borders, Council on Foundations - Family Philanthropy Conference, Donors Forum, CELESQ Webinars, Greater North Shore Estate and Financial Planning Council and Pacific Northwest Global Donors Conference.

She is a member of the Donors Forum – Chair of the Associate Members group, Chicago Estate Planning Council, North Shore Estate and Financial Planning Council, Grantmakers Without Borders, National Network of Grantmakers to Consultants, Advisors in Philanthropy, the Council on Foundations Philanthropic Advisor Network, and is a Trustee at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Since 2007 Betsy has also conducted the Power of Giving Back series for The University of Chicago Booth School of Business – Private Wealth Management course for high net worth individuals and families. She is also a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) through the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is one of a select group of professionals designated as a National Center for Family Philanthropy Trained Consultant.

Betsy has an MBA in International Business from The Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Roosevelt University. She is one of a select group of professionals designated as a National Center for Family Philanthropy Trained Consultant.
